Transformation of the derelict Grade II Listed Newark Works to provide 40,000sq.ft. of workspace accommodation.
Set within the Bath Quays development, Ferguson Mann Architects are working on a group of landmark Victorian industrial buildings dating from 1857-1905. Originally home to the Stothert & Pitt Ltd, ‘cranemakers to the world’, the buildings have an important legacy as part of the industrial development of the River Avon.
The new design will pay homage to the buildings’ past by retaining industrial and historic features, whilst their upgrade into a new workspace will see the buildings adapted so that they can house modern working activities.
The proposals intend to repair, alter and convert Newark Works to provide a great place for like-minded businesses principally within the creative industry sector. This includes flexible workspace, from co-working spaces to individual offices; with breakout areas including a cafe and events spaces. The approach is to be ‘light touch’ in order to capitalise on the existing industrial fabric as part of an overall strategy to provide an inspiring and vibrant place to work.
