Works have started on site for the retrofit of the Grade II listed aircraft hangar into a mixed-use community hub as part of YTL Developments wider masterplan for Brabazon. The proposals celebrate heritage assets such as the Belfast trusses, arched piers and external timber shutters, while introducing new uses such as café space, gym, activity spaces and a community hall.
FMA have worked to minimise the carbon impact of the works as well as the future operation of the building, by retaining and repairing as much of the existing fabric as possible, upgrading the buildings thermal performance and introducing a hybrid of mechanical heat recovery and passive ventilation.
Stay tuned to see how this exciting project progresses!
