The team at FMA recently visited the winning property for the RIBA House of the Year competition in 2021.

Windward House is located in St Briavels, England and it was designed by Alison Brookes Architects. The project achieved practical completion in 2020, and we were recently given the opportunity to visit the property, meet the owners and have a guided tour of the site.

The works comprise of the restoration of a Georgian stone farmhouse which has been converted to a gallery and guesthouse. The primary new-build element is the accessible ‘West Wing’ that houses living accommodation and an external terrace. A series of walled gardens leads to a pool pavilion with views towards the Bristol Channel, over the 8.5 Hectares of land that surrounds the house.

We would like to thank the owners for their hospitality and for the opportunity to see this inspiring and thought-provoking property.
