An affordable housing scheme of four apartments in Nailsea, Somerset.

Ferguson Mann Architects were appointed by Alliance Homes to develop an options appraisal for the transformation of a garage site in Nailsea. A residents consultation also took place before submitting the planning application which helped to inform the design.

The massing of the apartment block has been influenced by the semi-detached houses and three-storey flat block which surround the site, resulting in the communal stair core being recessed to give the appearance of two smaller forms.

Four 2 bed apartments will be provided for affordable rent tenure, with private garden spaces allocated to the ground floor flats. Each apartment will benefit from an open plan living, kitchen and dining space, as well as rooflights and an asymmetrical gable to minimise overlooking from the neighbouring flats.
