Masterplan and Outline Planning Approval for the redevelopment of the 66 acre Canon’s Marsh harbourside site to create a new vibrant mixed-use quarter in Bristol City Centre.

The scheme was located on a key brownfield site and accommodated 450 dwellings, 16,500m2 of commercial retail space, 17,500m2 of office and a hotel.

The urban design strategy demonstrated how the regeneration of such a site could be carried out using sustainable place-making principles, which involved retaining key views of the cathedral and the SS Great Britain, addressing the waterfront with suitably scaled buildings, providing active uses at ground floor and creating a new pedestrian friendly network of streets and other public spaces.

This included a new canal, deep within the site, that reinforced the special waterside character of this part of the city.
