Significant progress has been made on site at The Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon, where Ferguson Mann Architects have designed a new extension entitled the Long Bridge Wing. Construction work broke ground in July 2018 and the arrival of the structural steel work last week has been the source of much excitement, with the form of the galleries already beginning to take shape.

The Long Bridge Wing will be a two-story brick extension inspired by the aesthetic of the original 19th century Grade II listed museum to which it adjoins. Part funded by HLF, the new gallery will be home to the museum’s large social history collection and will feature other spaces such as an education room and a shop. The extension is due to open mid-2019.
