Preparation of a visioning study for the new Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone in Bristol.

The local enterprise partnership commissioned Ferguson Mann Architects to create a preliminary masterplan and accompanying imagery to coincide with the launch of the Enterprise Zone in 2012. Its purpose was to embrace a number of the existing initiatives under a new sustainable vision for the area around Temple Meads Station.

The vision set out the re-ordering of the station approach and entrance which would open up the station to the east, improved pedestrian permeability in and a new square that would be a focal point for this part of the city. The vision included a new arena and extended the site successfully along the waterfront as part of a ‘media mile’, embracing an improved and coordinated public transport provision.

The outcome was a cohesive vision that helped to build consensus about the needs and the kinds of change that would best benefit the area. The foundational work conducted as part of the study has been built upon and work including some of the ideas initiative in vision document are being implemented in the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone regeneration works which are due to complete in 2022.
