The Royal West of England Academy, Grade II* Listed, was originally constructed in 1857 to the interior plans of C.Underwood and the Italianate elevations of J.Hirst.

FMA completed a £1.3 million repair scheme for the roof and external envelope, part funded by English Heritage in 2002.

In 2007 we completed an options and phasing study for an HLF bid. Key objectives included updated environmental controls and collection storage as well as new facilities for staff and visitors. The project was divided into four phases of circa £350,000 each. Phase 1: improving access, facilities and a new café; Phase 2: environmental improvements to the galleries and collection have been completed.
