The renovation of Newport Covered Market within a Grade II Listed department store, including the installation of shop fronts and the creation of a new entrance.

The scheme re-establishes the original High Street elevations of Royal Chambers, through the removal of the poor 1980s canopies, and recreates the direct route through the building to the market beyond with a boldly coloured curved wall. The Market entrance is now signed within the street scape by an 8m tall finger post, whilst a smaller ‘halo’ sign hovers over the entrance inviting people in.

The Royal Chambers interior includes new stalls gathered around a court, acting as a ‘Place of Arrival’ with space for meeting and seating.
