A new visitor reception building achieving BREEAM ‘very good’ to replace the inadequate 1970s facilities.

A small building at around 100m2, it facilitates tickets sales, staff accommodation, interpretation displays, toilet accommodation and sales of light refreshments.

The new building appears to be free standing within the walls rather than abutted against it. A largely transparent design allows the castle’s curtain wall to be clearly visible behind. At night time the building transforms into a timber box as shutters are drawn.
