Planning Approval and Listed Building Consent have been granted and construction has begun on a new two-storey extension to the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon providing new gallery space, learning space and visitor facilities.

The existing museum sits within a prominent public square in the historic core of Barnstaple and the proposed extension is on a constrained and sensitive site between the existing Grade II museum and the Grade I Listed Long Bridge over the River Taw.

The extension provides new gallery spaces to showcase the museum’s large social history collection and to enable the museum to host temporary exhibitions of artefacts
